Why I Set Goals and Reflect on the Past Year!
It's that time of the year again; it's time to take a break and reflect on 2023. I love doing this during the Christmas break, as it is a great time to slow down and reflect back on the past year, learn from its experiences and celebrate the victories.
Before sitting down to review my goals today, I went for a walk with my mum, and we had an interesting conversation about goal setting. I mentioned to her that I wanted to look at my goals today, and she asked me…
WATCH MY TED TALK!
Six months ago I stood on the ‘red dot’ in Aachen, Germany when I delivered my TedxTalk, a talk that required me to dig deeper into my story than ever before. It was an incredibly empowering and humbling experience, and I am very excited to finally be able to share my TEDxTalk about how we can all make our dreams come true, by leaning into our fears, embracing uncertainty and by stepping out of our comfort zone.
Reflecting Back On 2022 And Setting Goals For 2023
The year 2022 is coming to an end. Like many people, I like to reflect back at the past year to appreciate the achievements and leanings 2022 has given me; both professionally and personally. I usually look back at the goals I set the year before to see how far I’ve gotten.
I LEFT MY JOB TO FOLLOW MY DREAM!
In my recent Ted Talk, I speak at length about fear and how we can learn to deal with fear and use it as a tool to start following our dreams. Last week, I decided to take my own advice and leave my job to work for myself. Even though it was a scary decision, I also feel it was the right one. After 2.5 great and educational years as Marketing Manager for the BTX Group, it is time to start a new adventure…
Corona Open J-Bay!
It’s been just over a month since I returned from South Africa. I needed time to reflect on how much this trip meant to me, how much I learned about myself and all the new connections I made with amazing people from all over the world.
First of all, I got to live my childhood dream of covering the World Surf League event on behalf of Corona…
Ted Talk, El Salvador and New Goals!
I returned home to Portugal last week and spent the weekend reflecting on the last month, which has been incredible in so many ways.
On June 9th I got on a plane to Germany, where I was going to give my first Tedx Talk in Aachen. The days leading up to the talk were packed with rehearsals, dealing with nerves and a bit of sight-seeing around the city…
Center Of The Sea
Last year we traveled to the mesmerizing Azores Islands to create this beautiful film with Corona Studios. I am honored to be part of this project as a surfer, but also as the writer and asst. producer. The Center of the Sea is a film about the stunning Azores, my friendship to Ana and about going out of your comfort zone.
Setting Goals For 2022
The year 2021 is coming to an end. Like many people, I like to reflect back at the past year to appreciate what I have achieved both professionally and personally. I usually look back at the goals I set the year before to see how far I’ve gotten. This year has been challenging in many ways, so it came as a surprise to see that I had reached many of my goals.

Last year during the height of COVID and a lot of professional uncertainty, I set a goal for myself: to give a keynote speech in front of a big audience. Last week, my goal and my dream came true when I delivered my talk on vulnerability at the EHiN Conference in Oslo, Norway in front of thousands of people. Watch the full talk here, and let me know what you think!
How Sports Saved Me During Lockdown
Lately I have been thinking a lot about my relationship with sport: why I always turn to it and why it might just be my biggest addiction. During the past year we have collectively experienced unprecedented upheaval on a global scale; Portugal, along with most European countries, went into lockdown in March 2020. And from that point on, life as we knew it completely changed.
Resurfacing
I moved to Australia just one year after the accident that changed my life. It was one of the scariest decisions I've ever made, and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Australia was where I was able to recreate myself, where I found a new passion, and where I got my smile back. Surfing became a huge part of my healing process and continues to challenge me to be better, in AND out of the water.

After sharing my own story of a car accident that nearly took my life, Arran began to open up about his own past. It turned out we shared more than just a passion for surfing.
A Car Accident Nearly Took My Life, Then Learning to Surf Saved It
I open my eyes and everything hurts. I squint away the bright fluorescent lights and try to focus. I’m lying in an uncomfortably narrow bed, the walls are a sterilized white, and I can see doctors standing by the door to my left.
What consequences does the technological development have for your job situation?
My Dad has always been one of my biggest idols both personally and professionally. I just arrived home after a six week surf and work trip to Australia. I was barely home for 5 minutes before my dad handed me an article he had just written and prompted me to read.
